If you’re looking for the perfect San Francisco day that feels like a mini vacation, this itinerary combines incredible coffee, one of the country’s best farmers markets, hidden wine bars, authentic Chinatown eats, a sweet treat in North Beach, and a historic waterfront cocktail—all without needing a car once you arrive.
8:00 AM – Coffee at Frank in Sausalito
Start your morning in Sausalito with a coffee from Frank, one of my favorite neighborhood cafés. Grab your drink to go and take a short stroll along the waterfront while the town is still quiet.
Watching the boats in Richardson Bay with coffee in hand is one of the best ways to ease into the day.
Order: Latte or cappuccino with one of their pastries.
9:00 AM – Ferry to San Francisco
One of the best parts of this itinerary is that the journey is part of the adventure.
Hop aboard the Golden Gate Ferry and enjoy views of:
Alcatraz
The Bay Bridge
The San Francisco skyline
The Ferry Building as you arrive
Pro tip: Sit outside if the weather cooperates.
9:45 AM – Ferry Building Farmers Market
San Francisco Ferry Building

If you’re visiting on a Saturday, don’t miss the famous farmers market.
You’ll find:
California produce
Fresh flowers
Local cheeses
Bakeries
Small artisan food vendors

Even if it isn’t market day, the Ferry Building is packed with excellent local food shops worth browsing.
Allow about an hour to wander.
11:00 AM – Walk to the Transamerica Pyramid
Transamerica Pyramid

It’s about a 15-minute walk through the Financial District.
Along the way you’ll pass:
Historic buildings
Public art
Quiet alleys
Beautiful architecture that many visitors miss
11:30 AM – A Drink at Verjus
Verjus

One of my favorite discoveries in this neighborhood.
Verjus feels like stepping into a tiny Parisian wine bar.
Order:
A glass of French wine
Champagne
One of their seasonal small plates if you’re hungry
It’s elegant without being pretentious and makes for a perfect midday stop.
12:30 PM – Lunch at Hon’s Wun-Tun House
Hon’s Wun-Tun House

Walk into Chinatown for one of the city’s classic comfort-food lunches.
What to order:
Wonton noodle soup
BBQ pork noodles
Dumplings
Chinese greens (my favorite!)
It’s delicious, affordable, and has become one of my favorite Chinatown stops.

2:00 PM – Wander Through North Beach
After lunch, make your way into North Beach.

Take your time exploring:
Washington Square Park
City Lights Bookstore
Local boutiques
Italian cafés
Side streets full of character
This is one of the most walkable neighborhoods in San Francisco.
3:00 PM – Affogato Stop
Caffè Greco
Even though you didn’t stop for one on your trip, this is a fantastic place to enjoy an affogato.
Their rich espresso poured over creamy gelato is the perfect afternoon pick-me-up while people-watching along Columbus Avenue.
Another excellent option is Lush Gelato if you’d prefer artisan gelato with your espresso.
4:30 PM – Cocktail at the Old Ship Saloon
Old Ship Saloon

Before heading home, stop into one of San Francisco’s oldest bars.
Originally built during the Gold Rush era, it still has plenty of historic charm.
Order:
An Old Fashioned
Espresso Martini
Local craft beer
It’s the perfect place to unwind before catching the ferry back across the bay.
Ferry Back to Sausalito
End the day exactly how you started—with incredible views of the bay.
Golden hour from the ferry is one of my favorite perspectives of San Francisco, and a reminder that sometimes the best adventures are the ones waiting just across the water.
Quick Tips
Best day: Saturday for the Ferry Building Farmers Market.
Walking distance: About 3 miles total, spread throughout the day.
What to wear: Comfortable walking shoes and a light jacket—San Francisco weather can change quickly.

Whether you’re visiting from out of town or you’re a Bay Area local looking for an easy weekend adventure, this itinerary packs some of San Francisco’s best neighborhoods into one memorable day. It’s proof that you don’t need a long vacation to feel like you’ve escaped.
