The Best Restaurants in Versailles: Where to Eat Beyond the Palace

Most people visit Versailles for one reason: the Palace.
But one of the biggest surprises from my trip? The town itself.
Beyond the Hall of Mirrors and the famous gardens is a charming French town filled with cobblestone streets, lively cafés, beautiful markets, and some truly incredible restaurants. If you’re only grabbing a sandwich before heading back to Paris, you’re missing one of the best parts of visiting Versailles.
Whether you’re spending a day exploring or staying overnight for the Grand Masked Ball (which I highly recommend), these are the restaurants worth adding to your itinerary.
For a Once-in-a-Lifetime Dinner: La Table du 11

If you’re celebrating something special—or simply want one unforgettable meal in Versailles—this is my top recommendation.
Located just steps from the Palace, La Table du 11 offers an elegant Michelin-starred tasting menu that feels refined without being intimidating. Every course showcases seasonal French ingredients with beautiful presentation and impeccable service.
It isn’t inexpensive, but if you’re looking for a memorable culinary experience to match the grandeur of Versailles, it’s worth the splurge.
Perfect for:
Anniversary dinners
The night before or after the Grand Masked Ball
Food lovers looking for a Michelin experience
Modern French Cuisine: Le Pincemin

Le Pincemin has become one of Versailles’ most talked-about restaurants, and for good reason.
The atmosphere is stylish yet relaxed, and the menu blends classic French flavors with modern techniques. If you’re traveling with someone who enjoys fine dining but doesn’t want the formality of a tasting menu, this is an excellent choice.
Reservations are highly recommended, especially during the summer months.
Luxury Dining: Gordon Ramsay au Trianon

If you’ve ever dreamed of dining like royalty, this is about as close as it gets.
Located inside the Waldorf Astoria Trianon Palace, Gordon Ramsay au Trianon offers an exceptional fine dining experience in an elegant setting just outside the Palace grounds.
This is the restaurant for celebrating life’s biggest moments.
Best Local Favorite: Gabérem

One our favorite discoveries is Gabérem.
It’s smaller, less touristy, and consistently receives outstanding reviews from locals. The menu changes with the seasons, the service is warm, and it offers an authentic French dining experience without feeling overly formal.
If you enjoy finding restaurants that locals actually eat at, add this one to your list.
Mediterranean Escape: Azuli

Sometimes after several days of rich French food, it’s nice to mix things up.
Azuli serves beautiful Mediterranean-inspired dishes in a bright, modern setting only a short walk from the Palace. Fresh vegetables, grilled meats, seafood, and colorful plates make this a wonderful lunch or dinner option.
A Classic French Brasserie: Au Petit Marquis

Looking for something more relaxed?
Au Petit Marquis has the feel of a traditional neighborhood brasserie where you can enjoy steak frites, French onion soup, wine, and people watching without committing to a multi-course fine dining experience.
It’s a wonderful place to slow down after exploring the Palace.
Sweet Treats & Casual Lunch: Le Bar à Crêpes

Not every meal in France needs to be elaborate.
Le Bar à Crêpes is perfect for a quick lunch, afternoon snack, or dessert. Whether you choose a savory galette or a sweet Nutella crêpe, it’s an easy and delicious stop while exploring town.
My Tip: Stay Overnight
If your schedule allows, spend at least one night in Versailles.
Most day-trippers leave by late afternoon, and that’s when the town becomes magical.
The crowds disappear, restaurants fill with locals instead of tour groups, and you can enjoy a leisurely dinner without rushing to catch the train back to Paris.
If you’re attending the Grand Masked Ball, staying overnight isn’t just convenient—it completely changes the experience.
Final Thoughts
Versailles is so much more than a day trip from Paris.
Take time to wander the side streets, browse the markets, linger over a glass of wine, and enjoy a memorable meal. Some of my favorite moments in Versailles happened outside the Palace gates, simply sitting at a restaurant watching everyday French life unfold.
Trust me—your visit will be even more memorable if you make time for dinner.
