Girl in the Fog

Bay Area

I’ve been loving seeing all my friends kids going back to school photos on Facebook. I remember those days. The nervous energy of starting school again. Wearing new shoes and a new outfit, a backpack full of folders and binders.

While summer is my favorite season, mainly because I love the sun and hot weather, as an adult the beginnings of fall is a new beginning of sorts. Pulling out the boots, sweaters and cozy socks.

Luckily here in the bay area, we get a push of hot weather in September and October called Indian Summer. While the sun sits lower in the sky, and it’s a tad cooler, it’s what us city dwellers look forward too from June – August while we live in fog.

I was thinking of getting together some friends and doing an end of summer hootanany on the beach the next few weekends? Bon fire, marshmallows, music. Anyone in?

St.-Jean An important part of making a small apartment in San Francisco bearable is to get out of town on a regular basis. As part of my “stay-cation” this week we hightailed it out of San Francisco to wine country to get a little sun and R&R. Stop one on the way up north was in Sonoma at this amazing winery, Chateau St. Jean.  Nestled against the hills near Kenwood, it was a beautiful place to start to unwind. We have a busy day planned today, and I’ll be sure to summarize everything in a larger post laster this week.

Staycation

I’m SOOO excited to be taking some time off of work.  While originally we had planned on doing a trip up to Seattle but it wasn’t working out, so we decided to stay local and take a “staycation”

Today we’re heading up to one of my favorite places on earth, Calistoga, CA.  I’m really looking forward to some sun and pool time since we don’t have much in San Francisco this time of year.  We also have some wine tasting planned as well as some special meals planned.

Mac and cheese is my boyfriend John’s favorite food.  For him, it’s practically a food group. Not only does he LOVE it, he has become a serious connoisseur of the stuff, tasting and stiffing it like a fine wine.  So when I took him to lunch in Oakland at Homeroom for his birthday this week, I was a little nervous that he wouldn’t like it.  Boy was I wrong!

Being the mac and cheese traditionalist he is, he stuck with the classic with breadcrumbs which he said was amazing. I couldn’t resist the jalapeno popper mac which had just the right kick and flavor.

If you like mac and cheese and an adorable place with a great vibe, check it out.
